A few of the big pack from Limpopo Lipadi - @ can tell you more about them. Was able to approach very close and enjoy being with them on our own for at least 30 minutes...

Of particular interest to me was where the dogs were chewing on the tree stump, and in the last photo which looks like a kill but was in fact the pack teaching a younger dog a lesson? Ie nipping at him/her as they rolled over in submission. What is that about?

Wonderful images Game Warden

@@wenchy Thanks but I'm not a good photographer, it's only because @ loaned me a good lens to stick on my 40d. Being close up and the dogs relaxed helped a lot.

There are some more images in my album here, I picked a selection but perhaps there are better ones there?

Love the pics, just post more. :)

The dog in the second picture on the right is apparently wounded, any idea how he/she received those injuries?

Great pictures - are they a taster for a trip report?

Are the dogs with the tree stump scent marking it perhaps? (I know cats do it but do dogs?)

I'll post some more in due course :) Just prior to us getting there the pack had tried to take on an adult warthog which had tusked one of them before escaping, that one must have been the one which was gored...

What a wonderful sighting, lucky you,

You're a lucky fellow Matt. A super sighting.

We actually saw the pack over two days. Amazing interaction, heard a kill but did not see it...

The pack is made up of 22 dogs, and some are carrying injuries. These dogs put their bodies on the line everyday while hunting. It seems that when the pack is this big, they tend to get brave, and moments before we found them, they were trying to bring down a warthog - A little fool hardy. The witnesses said that one dog got in the way of the sharp end. This does not mean that the injury was from that incident. Speculation is that the pack is at capacity, and should fracture soon, so there is a possibility of a little inter pack aggression.

They have been spotted mating, and so they should den pretty soon. The pack split from 30 to 22 a few months ago with 8 dogs leaving the reserve. So new dynamics will come to play when pups arrive. What is most fascinating is the continual bonding and social interaction between them. The bizarre behaviour in the last photo didn't seem to make sense. It was highly submissive behaviour, and for a moment I thought the other dogs were going to kill the one on the ground.

We saw the Afsaal Pack of Kruger on 22 March 2014 at Afsaal :D

There were 13 dogs and they were on the move, trotting in the grass and on the road, which made photography difficult.

IMG_0675.jpg

They ran for 8 kilometers in 90 minutes before going off into the bush. Always a thrill to see wild dogs

Just sorting out the Pictures and Videos from my recent trip to Kruger NP.

Filmed this whilst staying at Shindzela lodge.

This is as filmed, with no editing performed yet. So beware it is a long video.

Hopefully get round to edit this one with the other 2 that I filmed at the same time.

Enjoy....
