The Ndumo camp was very good for birds and bats but UMkhuze is fabulous. There is a small bird hide in camp but in the reserve a short distance away the KuMasinga hide is brilliant. The reserve is only small but there were hardly any visitors in August. Superb. You could combine the two reserves and head down to St Lucia where there is a campsite very close to my woodland walk which was so productive. I would choose this over a return to Kruger any day.

I second the above statement. Add Drakensberg with its majestic scenery.

At the beginning of the year I set a target of 400 species for my Big Year attempt. Here I have achieved it!

Why 400? Because that's the most species I have previously knowingly seen in a year although I don't count them usually. That was back in 2008 and I only saw them, not photographed them! The Big Year adds a little fun, a reason to carry on taking photographs but it can become a little tedious processing them all afterwards, I'll carry on adding whatever comes my way this year but I can't say I'll commit to trying to break my personal best ever again.

I was tempted to post an EBC but decided in colour instead!!
